Auslaufmodell Supermacht

release date: Feb 01, 2013
Auslaufmodell Supermacht

Proudly We Speak Your Name

release date: Nov 01, 2016
Proudly We Speak Your Name
In April 2009 alumni and friends of Catholic High School for Boys will gather to toast and roast a favorite of the school’s legendary faculty, Michael Moran, the author of Proudly We Speak Your Name. Only a stoic could complete a reading without a teary-eyed moment or two and many belly laughs. Faculty idiosyncrasies are recalled in this memoir, as are student antics. If it can happen within the walls of an all-boys high school, the author has probably seen it in his forty-one years of teaching. And he has probably reported on it in this book, which was written during his first year of "retirement.” While the spirit is often light, Moran’s book ends with a stirring tribute to the man who, though departed, still epitomizes the spirit of the place, the man whose name is now given to the school’s street, Father George Tribou. Readers will leave Moran’s account glad for the experience of following in his (remembered) footsteps.

An Interferometer Map of the Water-vapor Sources in W49
A map of the water-vapor emission at 22 GHz from W49 has been constructed from data taken with a three-station long-baseline interferometer in 1970 June. The source is found to be composed of many individual features, all of which are less than 0 [inches].0005 in size and lie within a circle having an angular diameter of approximately 1 [inches].5. The position of the source is less than 10[inches] from one of the OH sources in W49.

A Study of the Differences Between Volunteers and Non-volunteers in Friendship Formation Behaviors in Adults with Mental Retardation

release date: Jan 01, 2001
A Study of the Differences Between Volunteers and Non-volunteers in Friendship Formation Behaviors in Adults with Mental Retardation
Persons with mental retardation and developmental disabilities have moved in significant numbers from institutional settings and large group homes into community-based settings in recent years. This community integration progress generally has not resulted in commensurate social relationships and friendships between persons with mental retardation and non-handicapped persons. This study explored the possibility of participation in volunteer activities in the community as an element to promote friendship formation behaviors between adults with mental retardation and non-handicapped persons in the community. Two groups of adults with mental retardation who met established criteria were compared. Raters completed five related sections of a social competence instrument that measured the ability to (a) initiate interactions, (b) provide positive feedback and reinforcement, (c) obtain cues and respond to relevant situational cues, (d) provide information and offer assistance, and (e) request and accept assistance. Independent variables investigated were (a) volunteer class, (b) gender, (c) location, and (d) volunteer/gender (interaction). Data were analyzed using analyses of variance for the five dependent variables. The results suggested that there were no differences among these five aspects of friendship behaviors and failed to reject the null hypotheses. Some studies have suggested that participation in community volunteer activities may have a variety of benefits for persons with mental retardation. However, this study indicated a lack of effectiveness of volunteer activity on the five distinct friendship formation behaviors analyzed. However, the high prevalence of persons with mental retardation who volunteer in their communities today suggests that this may be an area for further exploration in building community-based relationships.
