Argentina's Economic Growth and Recovery

release date: May 15, 2012
Argentina's Economic Growth and Recovery
This book examines the causes of the economic and political crisis in Argentina in 2001 and the process of strong economic recovery. It poses the question of how a country which defaulted on its external loans and was widely criticized by international observers could have succeeded in its growth and development despite this decision in 2002. It examines this process in terms of the impact of neo-liberal policies on the economy and the role of development strategy and the state in recovering from the crisis

Perspectives on the Face

Perspectives on the Face
"This book explores the face from a number of perspectives: evolutionary, embryonic, developmental, postnatal, anatomic, physiologic, dysmorphic, genetic, surgical psychosocial, sociocultural, symbolic, and artistic. These are diverse fields, yet they are brought together here to help form an integrated understanding and appreciation of this fascinating subject. Like images seen in a kaleidoscope, faces are infinitely complex and beautiful. They are woven into our daily lives, our dreams, and our memories."--BOOK JACKET.

Restructuring the Education System

release date: Jan 01, 1988
Restructuring the Education System
The widening mismatch between the skills of the work force and the skill demands of the workplace underlie the need for school restructuring. Within the categories of school-level, school-district, and state-level issues, a discussion about and suggestions for restructuring U.S. education in order to improve its productivity and student acquisition of higher order thinking skills comprise the crux of this document. Educational goals, the structure of knowledge, instructional tasks and activities, instructional group size and composition, and instructional time are reviewed and analyzed as school-level issues. School district role, central office functions, the balance between centralized control and local autonomy, present and alternative governance structures, personnel policies and practices, and collective bargaining are analyzed within the rubric of school district issues. A discussion of state-level issues suggests setting educational goals, stimulating local innovation, and rethinking state accountability systems. In response to the educational challenges that schools face, fundamental changes in the way local districts and states operate will determine the way schools are structured, instruction is provided, and staff roles and responsibilities are defined. The Child with Multiple Birth Defects
A medical genetics book which came into existence because of the lack of literature on multiple congenital anomaly syndromes, this study incorporates an approach to the patient with multiple anomalies. It deals with the underpinnings of the field of syndromology. Designed for students, residents, fellows, and physicians with an interest in syndromology, this book assumes some general understanding of the rudiments of both medicine and genetics. The author emphasizes the conceptual aspects of syndromology rather than provide an encyclopaedic treatment on specific syndromes -- atopic covered extensively in other textbooks. Since 1982, when the first edition of this monograph came out, the field has advanced dramatically. That is why Cohen has rewritten the entire book, and added new chapters on genetics, teratogens, and facial dysmorphology.
