A Study of the Biblical Worldview of K-12 Christian School Educators

release date: Jan 01, 2008
A Study of the Biblical Worldview of K-12 Christian School Educators
This study was designed to investigate the influence of six factors on the biblical Christian worldview of Christian school educators as measured by The Nehemiah Institute''s PEERS (2003) worldview assessment. The study sample consisted of 141 Christian school educators from six different Christian schools; three Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) located in Idaho, and three Association of Classical & Christian Schools (ACCS) located in Idaho, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. A causal-comparative design was utilized and scores were analyzed using independent samples t-tests. The six factors under study are: raised in a Christian or a non-Christian home; graduated from a Christian or a public high school; earned an undergraduate or graduate degree from a Christian university or a public university; worked at the elementary or secondary level; employed by a school affiliated with and accredited by ACSI or ACCS; and, taught in Christian schools fewer than 10 years or 10 years or more. No significant differences were found in five of the six factors. A significant difference was found in the results for ACSI and ACCS affiliated and accredited schools. The difference between the means of the ACSI and ACCS participants was nearly 20 points, suggesting a more biblical Christian worldview on the part of ACCS educators. In addition, a significant difference was noted between genders. Suggestions for further research are also included.

The Ranks of Men

The Ranks of Men
"The Ranks of Men" is the story of the troubled relationship between two brothers, Shane and Conan. A childhood incident, whereby Conan allowed another boy beat up Shane, lies at the heart of their difficulties. Sitting in his armchair, drinking Wild Turkey at two in the afternoon, Shane looks out onto the green in his housing estate, and thinks about his life. The previous night, at his own birthday party, he saw his fiancee with another man, and did nothing about it. As the hours toll away and the bottle empties, he comes to see that there is little he can be proud of, that he is a coward, that his existence is worthless. He drinks mercilessly until he loses consciousness. Later that night, Conan finds him huddled asleep on his doorstep, and with palpable distaste, brings him inside and puts him to bed. Annoyed by his brother''s presence, and resenting the obligations of family, Conan nevertheless feels a guilty responsibility to him, and determines to remould his brother''s life into a more desirable shape. Conan selfishly encourages Shane to leave Ireland, and travel across America. While there Shane determines to accumulate the knowledge that will enable him to avoid confrontational situations in the future. He meets a beautiful girl, Geena, in New Orleans, and persuades her to accompany him. But self-doubt destabilises the relationship, and it falls apart when he cannot stop another man from crudely assaulting her, paralysed by fear. He joins the Marines in the hope that they will teach him how to fight, now believing that only violent beasts can survive in the world. But though he succeeds in transforming his nature, it comes at a terrible cost to both himself and his brother.

Geist

Geist
The Geist exist to ferry ghosts away from dead bodies and into the gates of the afterlife. At least, that’s what Ash Murphy was told after he died in a fiery car crash and became one. Ash is forced to leave his old life behind and join the ranks of the mostly invisible, seemingly immortal Geist. And they all seem pretty perky for people who deal with death on a daily basis. After years of rejection and isolation, Ash finally has a group of friends he''s willing to fight for. Of course, not everyone believes that Geist are doing God''s work. Ash discovers this when he attracts the ire of The Brotherhood of Eternity, who believe Geist are actually murdering those they reap. And they will stop at nothing to exorcize every Geist on Earth. Ash will do whatever it takes to defend his new family and take down the Brotherhood…or he''ll die (again) trying.
