I felt like a tourist and they paid me to go.The world tour included the enjoyable sights of Hawaii, Hong Kong, Singapore, Ceylon, Greece, Italy, France, Barcelona, Spain and both the Panama and Suez Canals. Twice I visited my brother in Tokyo, experiencing Japanese life as few Westerners ever will. Several hair raising experiences occurred in Korea.Along the way I learned to be a helmsman and steered our ship through a scary five long day typhoon of the coast of Japan. What a trip!These stories are written from the perspective of an older teenager as I remember them. I tried not to take myself too seriously. While contemplating the writing of my college memoirs about the University of Dayton, I jokingly referred to how I crammed a four year college course into six. It turned out that I had a double major: engineering and having fun. My college life was comprised of three books named after the places where I lived, The Mansion, The Dirty Double and Frank Street. I named the trilogy The Scholars. This third book begins when I returned to Cleveland, my hometown, to enjoy a summer with my two State Trooper brothers. My full ride scholarship allowed me to return to college in the Fall. The Three Wise Men, my brothers and I, journey to Florida for Christmas where we found a flock to lead astray. Spring Break, facilitated by friends, included a home on the ocean and a yacht for parties. Some of our escapades were featured in Time Magazine.The college scene proved so boring after Spring Break; I turned to my studies saving my college career.

The Barons begins with Mark trying to figure out who his parents are. His father, Leslie, is a non-Catholic immigrant from England. His mother, Nora, a Catholic, emigrated from Ireland. Why would these two get married? Didn''t the Irish hate the English? He never does figure this out.His brother, John, bought a car before he even knew how to drive. Rather than suffering under their father''s tutelage, John found a girl to teach him. For the guy''s first road trip, John and Mark head for Detroit; only to get stuck in a snow storm.Prior to going into an all-boys Catholic High School, John insisted that Mark take dancing lessons at Arthur Murray''s. This enabled Mark to meet the girls in the many Catholic High Schools in the area.While a friend was teaching him to drive, Mark rolled the family''s car on its side. Now he had to tell his father that he had totaled the family''s car. He asked St. Anthony to give him the proper words to explain this disaster to his father. Instead Mark said, "I totaled the car!" His father whole heartily agreed. In desperation Mark declares it can be fixed. "You fix it, you can have it," his father declares in frustration. Fix it Mark did. In less than a week, with the help of an old friend, it was fixed. This is how Mark Anthony named his car, Cleopatra.John formed a car club with a bunch of his older friends. They called it the Royal Order of the Barons. He invites Mark to join. The club made Mark their president, who knows why? The Urchins become royalty, if only in their minds.The Kelly family continues to take their month long summer vacations. This one was to Washington DC, Georgia and to Florida. Later in the summer, John''s girlfriend invites him to visit her at her high school sorority''s cottage at Madison-on-the-Lake. John, Mark and their friend, Dick, drove to the lake for the time of their lives. The girls took them to the local dancehall where they taught the guys how to drink by chug-a-lugging each beer. The girls have to drive the guys back to their cottage for the night.The following Kelly summer vacation was to Canada. John declined to go. The trip includes Buffalo, Rochester, and Albany in New York. The Kelly''s camp along the road. Through Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine; into Quebec, Ottawa, and on to North Bay Canada for an extended stay. "We are going to visit the home of the Dionne Quintuplets", dad announced. "They are the most famous people living in Canada; five sisters born at the same time." We saw their home but not them. Upon leaving they stop for Sunday Mass in Callandar. In walked the Quintuplets who sat in the pew in front of them.Back in Cleveland, Mark suggested that the Barons rent a cottage of their own at Madison-on-the-Lake. They did! After two great weeks of meeting the girls, dancing and drinking beer Mark returned for his last year of high school. His fame proceeded him. He found new friend at his high school along with a new set of girls from Beaumont.When the Korean War broke out, Mark convinced one of his new friends to joining the Navy Reserves with him so that we could get the GI Bill for college after the War. Upon graduating from high school they went into the Navy.

This study was designed to investigate the influence of six factors on the biblical Christian worldview of Christian school educators as measured by The Nehemiah Institute''s PEERS (2003) worldview assessment. The study sample consisted of 141 Christian school educators from six different Christian schools; three Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) located in Idaho, and three Association of Classical & Christian Schools (ACCS) located in Idaho, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. A causal-comparative design was utilized and scores were analyzed using independent samples t-tests. The six factors under study are: raised in a Christian or a non-Christian home; graduated from a Christian or a public high school; earned an undergraduate or graduate degree from a Christian university or a public university; worked at the elementary or secondary level; employed by a school affiliated with and accredited by ACSI or ACCS; and, taught in Christian schools fewer than 10 years or 10 years or more. No significant differences were found in five of the six factors. A significant difference was found in the results for ACSI and ACCS affiliated and accredited schools. The difference between the means of the ACSI and ACCS participants was nearly 20 points, suggesting a more biblical Christian worldview on the part of ACCS educators. In addition, a significant difference was noted between genders. Suggestions for further research are also included.

This would be the second book in the trilogy about college named The Scholars. My friends and I rented an unfurnished half of a duplex located across the street from the University of Dayton. We attempted to fix it up, just enough to make it livable. The other half of the duplex was inhabited by a group of guys who considered themselves to be the movers and shakers of the college scene. They were called BMOC, Big Men on Campus. They did not look kindly on their shabby neighbors.There were different versions as to why our residence was called The Dirty Double. Whether it was because of the condition of the place, the guys living there or the parties we threw. I''m not sure. You decide.
