In questo libro si raccolgono in modo sistematico i risultati di oltre vent’anni di ricerche didattiche sul tema delle macchine matematiche, realizzate in Italia e all’estero, in tutti gli ordini scolastici. L’esplorazione guidata delle macchine consente di ricostruire il significato geometrico-spaziale di concetti o procedure di solito affrontati solo nel quadro algebrico e di esplorare dinamicamente le configurazioni assunte allo scopo di produrre congetture e costruire dimostrazioni. Le macchine consentono anche di stabilire collegamenti interessanti con l’arte e la tecnologia, rompendo l’isolamento in cui si colloca spesso l’insegnamento della matematica.

Cet ouvrage est le condensé des recherches qui ont été réalisées à l’Ensa de Limoges entre 2011 et 2014 autour d’un axe de recherche « céramique et espace urbain ». La recherche s’est articulée entre un colloque et des mises à l’épreuve au travers d’ateliers de travail avec des artistes du post-diplôme « Kaolin » et l’intervention d’Andréa Branzi autour d’un projet de réalisation de mobilier urbain. Il s’inscrit dans une réflexion plus large où les frontières entre art, architecture, design, et à un certain égard savoir-faire sont en ce début de siècle nouveau réinterrogés au sein d’un continuum historique qui n’a peut-être jamais cessé de questionner les liens puissants qui unissent l’ensemble des champs d’expérimentation.

Ogni mio libro ha preso forma da un piccolo impulso originario: un''immagine particolarmente intensa, uno scambio di battute particolarmente efficace, un brano musicale particolarmente evocativo. "La Sottana della Vergine" non fa eccezione. Si è in pratica costruito attorno a una frase (la leggerete alla fine del libro). Sempre come al solito, i personaggi hanno fatto un po'' quel che volevo io e un po'' quel che volevano loro stessi; ogni tanto uno/a di loro irrompeva nella mia mente per strillare con indignazione: "Ti pare che IO potrei dire la tal cosa o agire in quella maniera?" Così, dovevamo negoziare. Inoltre, io dovevo negoziare la mia scrittura, la mia ispirazione e i tempi relativi con una situazione personale assai difficile. E l''atto del negoziare, del discutere insieme delle esigenze e dei problemi di ciascuno è diventato un altro fulcro del romanzo. Siamo su una Terra futura, salvata in apparenza dall''autodistruzione dall''intervento di una razza aliena che "adatta" biologicamente il pianeta per potervi vivere. Agli esseri umani è offerta la scelta di ibridarsi per condividere quelli che sono divenuti spazi inospitali o di sopravvivere in piccole nicchie separate dal resto. La struttura sociale che gli umani ricreano per se stessi, nell''assoluta indifferenza degli alieni, è altrettanto compartimentalizzata e strettamente gerarchica. Le varie aggregazioni in essa presenti interagiscono in modo assai conflittuale. La vicenda si snoda attorno a un personaggio che sta al punto più basso della scala sociale, uno "schiavo sessuale" e mutante genetico il cui comportamento è controllato nei mimini dettagli e persino a livello chimico e i cui tentativi di sfuggire a precetti basati su violenza e pregiudizi sembrano destinati al fallimento in modo inevitabile. Un Signor Nessuno per eccellenza, privo di talenti specifici, di aspettative, di sogni... e quasi privo di desideri, tranne quello di incontrare di nuovo "l''alieno" in cui si è imbattuto per caso anni prima. Ma sarà un desiderio che cambierà la Storia.

The dramatic recent expansion in genomic information has motivated the development of new approaches to characterize gene expression and function. A critical issue for both basic and clinical endocrinologists is the physiological role of genes involved in regulating endocrine functions. Transgenic technologies allow the translation of genotypic information into specific phenotypes by using gene overexpression or loss of specific gene functions. Murine functional genomics is thus of central importance in modem biomedical endocrine research. Although mice are at present, the preferred mammalian species for genetic manipulations because of the availability of pluripotent embryonic. stem cells and inbred strains and the relatively low breeding and maintenance costs, transgenic rats have also been generated and used to study endocrine physiology. The two basic techniques used in the creation of transgenic animal models are integration of foreign DNA into a fertilized oocyte by random chromosomal insertion and homologous recombination in embryonic stem cells that are then introduced into zygotes. Transgenic mice and rats serve as sophisticted tools to probe protein function, as models of human disease, and as hosts for the testing of gene replacement and other therapies. Embryonic stem cell libraries for mouse gene deletion are being developed, which will make it possible to generate knockout mice rapidly and without the need to analyze gene structure, construct targeting vectors, and screen embryonic stem cell clones. A novel approach to transgenesis for the expression of DNA within adult differentiated neuroendocrine cells in vivo is using viral vectors.

This note describes a new method of accounting for funding agreement-backed securities (FABS) in the Financial Accounts of the United States.

Objective : Assess pt perceptions of quality and access to gynecological care through the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) versus outside the VHA. Design : Anonymous cross sectional surveys distributed to VHA patients presenting for gynecological care and collected after visits. Patients : A sample of 356 female Veterans presenting for care the Mission Valley VA Women''s Clinic between Nov 16, 2010 and April 10, 2013. Measures : Patients rated the quality and access of current care and over a 12 month period, both within and outside the VHA system. Analysis : The answers to questions regarding quality and access to care at the VA were summarized. Answers to questions comparing the VA versus outside care was dichotomized (better at the VA versus the same or worse) and was analyzed with respect to age (18-39 versus u003e̲40) and race (White, Black, Asian, Hispanic and other). Results : Gynecological care through the VA was rated as better than outside care by 70% and easier to access by 62%. There was no statistical significant difference reported with respect to age or race.
