Climate Change Improving Kentucky Golf Industry and Reducing Environmental Impact
Climate data from six National Weather Service stations were analyzed to compare "fact" with the statements from the golf professionals. Overall, there was good agreement between the two data sets. The climate of southern Kentucky has warmed slightly since 1970. In response, the number of growing degree days and golf playing days has increased over time. These findings show that southern Kentucky''s golf industry has benefited from recent climate change.

The Influence of Habitus and Cultural Capital on the College Choice Decisions of Postbaccalaureate Students Enrolled in a Canadian Community College

The Influence of Habitus and Cultural Capital on the College Choice Decisions of Postbaccalaureate Students Enrolled in a Canadian Community College
The purpose of this study was to examine factors that influenced individuals with university degrees to enroll in a Canadian community college. Also investigated was whether these factors were similar to, or different from, factors that influenced the initial university choice decision. Fourteen university degree-bearing individuals participated in the study; eleven females and three males. Participants were interviewed individually. The data obtained from these interviews were transcribed and the transcripts were coded, categorized, analyzed, and sorted into major themes and submitted to interpretive analysis.Findings reported that influencing factors were different at each decision point. At the university decision point, familial habitus and cultural capital played predominant roles. Parents were the most significant influence; other factors included the influence of friends and the climate/culture of the high school attended. At the community college decision point, each individual was in control of the process and made the decision to enroll in a community college. The most significant influencing factor was work force related: either the individuals could not or did not obtain meaningful employment with their university degrees (Career Seekers) or they were seeking to change their current occupation (Career Changers). The second most influential factor was a desire to obtain economics: the majority of Career Seekers lived with their parents to cut down on their educational expenses while most of the Career Changers were place bound and could only afford to enroll in the local community college. Other factors that were identified as lesser but contributing influences at the community college decision point included length of program, gender and friends/acquaintances.
