release date: Mar 27, 2014
Letters From the Front: Letters and Diaries from the BEF in Flanders and France, 1914-1918
A generation raised on the British Empire confronted the unexpected horrors of modern war. Never were a nation''s expectations so different from the coming clash of the First World War. Expecting a vigorous romp to victory, soldiers endured a brutal quagmire. Presenting letters & diaries of soldiers themselves, many unseen for nearly a hundred years, Smith allows men from Field Marshall "Douggy" Haig to plain Private Smith to have a clear voice. With enough narrative to recall how the Great War unfolded, a wealth of vivid detail brings the miserable life in the trenches back to life. What began with high hopes and horses ended with disillusion and tanks. From the build up at the beginning of the war until the immediate post-war reduction, Letters from the Front: Letters and Diaries from the BEF in Flanders and France 1914-1918 is enlivened with fascinating details and makes a moving, entertaining and informative read.

Hit-Girl: a Hollywood

release date: Dec 07, 2019
Hit-Girl: a Hollywood

Young breast cancer survivors

release date: Jul 29, 2020
Young breast cancer survivors
The economic burden of breast cancer for women under 50 in the United States remains largely unexplored, in part because young women make up a small proportion of breast cancer cases overall. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted a web-based survey to compare data from breast cancer survivors 18–39 years of age at first diagnosis and 40–49 years of age at first diagnosis. We administered a survey to a national convenience sample of 416 women who were 18–49 years of age at the time of their breast cancer diagnosis. We analyzed factors associated with financial decline using multivariate regression.Survivors 18–39 years of age at first diagnosis were more likely to report Stage II–IV breast cancer (P u003c 0.01). They also quit their jobs more often (14.6%) than older survivors (4.4%; P u003c 0.01) and faced more job performance issues (55.7% and 42.8%, respectively; P = 0.02). For respondents in both groups, financial decline was more likely if the survivor had at least one comorbid condition (odds ratios: 2.36–3.21) or was diagnosed at Stage II–IV breast cancer (odds ratios: 2.04–3.51).

Sarah's Song

release date: Mar 15, 2023
Sarah's Song
As the grotesque figure stepped closer to Myung-Dae Kwon, his stomach convulsed from the foul stench that enveloped him. The servant of Satan planted himself firmly only a few feet from Myung-Dae Kwon and bellowed with a voice that shook the ground for miles. His putrid breath dropped birds in flight and frogs from the trees to the ground. It laid the tall wheat grass down around the path as far as one could see. At the bank of the Han River, Kim heard the unholy roar of the beast and fell back into the longboat. Peering over the side, he saw the river water dancing (as it does when an alligator sounds its mating call). Kim saw the birds falling from the sky and the frogs dropping into the river and along the shore. He was struck with fear. The repugnant creature spoke to Myung-Dae Kwon with a horrifying voice. "In your cloak you carry a script that belongs to me. Put it in this box, and I will not harm you."

For instance, three of the leading journal in education foundations journals (e.g., The Journal of Educational Studies, British Journal of Sociology of Education, The Journal of Educational Foundations) solicit manuscripts and support scholarship mainly from professors who reside in Britain and the United States. This journal is also unique because it brings together scholars and practitioners from disciplines outside of educational foundations, who are equally committed to social change and promoting equity and social justice inside and outside of K–16 schools. The SoJo Journal: Educational Foundations and Social Justice Education’s audience is K–12 teachers, K–12 teacher educators, educational leaders, social activists, political economists, and higher education personnel across the globe. release date: May 16, 2002
Conflict Over Convoys
Conflict over Convoys examines the Battle of the Atlantic from the perspective of Anglo-American diplomacy, deepening our understanding of Allied grand strategy, British industrial policy, and operations TORCH and OVERLORD. Failure to build and maintain enough ships to feed the people and wage war made Britain dependent upon American-built merchant ships and American logistical support, yet British strategists aspired to dominate Allied strategy, while Roosevelt mismanaged merchant shipping allocations. The resulting gap between strategic ambition and logistical reality embittered the controversy over the ''Second Front''. Victory in the Atlantic finally led to American dominance of Allied logistics diplomacy and strategy. Conflict over Convoys relates these tensions to the decline of British hegemony and the rise of the USA to global influence.
