The transitional period between the Nineteenth and Twentieth Dynasties is a period in Egyptian history about which little is understood, as scant archaeological evidence from this period survives to the present, certainly when compared to the embarrass de richesses we find from the first half of the former dynasty. It is, however, one of the more fascinating chapters of Egypt’s past, featuring Siptah, a young handicapped king of uncertain royal background, Bay, a non-royal official, who wields unprecedented power and ultimately seems to have paid the consequences for overreaching, and culminating with Tausret, a female, one of only a handful of women to rise to the throne in Egypt’s three thousand years of pharaonic history. Upon her death, a man named Sethnakht, whose genealogical and occupational background remains a mystery, ushers in a new dynasty. Given the limited amount of material we have for this period, each surviving piece of the historical puzzle has increased importance and meaning attributed to it as we attempt to gain insight into the latter part of this pivotal epoch. How one interprets such evidence, therefore, can have a profound impact on the reconstruction of events from this period. It is the goal of this dissertation to critically examine the evidence (both old and new) for the reigns of Siptah, Tausret, and Sethnakht in order to gain a better understanding of this approximately ten-year span of time. Problems to be considered include the genealogy of these individuals, the extent of foreign activity during their respective reigns, chronological issues, and the myriad ways these monarchs attempted to present themselves as legitimate. .

The rotor noise prediction program has been improved by the following items: (1) inclusion of the helicopter rotor noise ground reflection phenomenon, (2) inclusion of the variability of oscillatory forces as related to the vortex shedding phenomenon, (3) expansion of the data base for the broadband noise data bank, and (4) description of a calculation procedure which demonstrates how the program input deck can be modified to account for impulse signals of single-rotor blade vortex interactions. The rotor noise prediction program has been developed so that the acoustic characteristics of new, untested rotor designs could be evaluated as well as the effects of basic design changes on the acoustic signature of existing rotors. An investigation was made of how two different experimental tools could be used to investigate an Army tactical commander''s decision-making process. The procedure was to use a single decision; the Army battalion/task force commander''s decision to mass supporting artillery on a trigger area/kill zone, and investigate the variables that affect the decision. The experimental tools used were a questionnaire, in which an experiment on this decision was completed, and the interactive computer wargame, JANUS, which was described and investigated for its usefulness in analyzing tactical decisions.

Karman-street-type vortex shedding from a lifting surface was analyzed as a source of noise from a helicopter rotor in hover and forward flight. Experimental pressure-time histories were analyzed, and high resolution spectra were developed over a frequency range of 0 to 5000 Hz using a 0.7-Hz filter. The results of the investigation indicated that ''vortex noise'' is the major source of acoustic radiation from a helicopter rotor in hover or low-speed flight and that it is concentrated in the frequency range of 200 to 500 Hz. The purpose of this work is to provide understanding regarding the future of library workplaces by, first, establishing the relationship between Joseph Campbell''s functions of mythology in traditional cultures and workplace texts, and then showing libraries as workplaces with such texts. With this framework in place, it is possible to pick-out the fundamental cycle inherent in library workplace cosmology, highlight pedagogical cycles inherent in library texts, and generate an informed understanding of future cosmological and pedagogical trends using educated extrapolation of such cycles. These steps all serve to lay further groundwork in understanding library workplace mythology and its sociological effects, and, using the relationship between ever-moving cosmological and pedagogical cycles, it becomes possible to form an educated picture of future library sociology. In the end, library workplace mythology has no new revelations about the direction of library workplace sociology, only new ways of dispelling predictions often made about the future of libraries and their workplaces. By looking at library workplaces as sites of mythology, this work offers expectations that the same cycles inherent in past and present library workplaces will continue to overcome changes in the technological, political, and social constructs of future library workplaces.

The prediction program is general enough to be able to consider future designs in hover and steady state flight for any observer location. The program output is the digital pressure time history produced by the helicopter rotors at the observer location. This pressure time history corresponds to that which would be recorded by a microphone place at the observer location. The program output can be Fourier analyzed so that the noise spectrum can be generated. The digital pressure time history can also be converted to an analog signal for subjective evaluation.
