This mixed-methods descriptive study reports students'' perceptions on their mastery of objectives in both a standards -based grading system and a traditional grading system. High school precalculus students, in the standard - based grading environment, recollected their mastery of the course objectives and also reported on the usefulness of standards-based grading in open-ended questions. The precalculus students'' recollection rates were compared with honors precalculus students in a traditional grading environment. The study reports that both groups had a relatively high recollection rate, and students in standards - based grading recalled that the system helped them to determine which objectives they still needed to work on, and that helped them prepare for the reassessment.
