A Nation Under God

release date: Nov 18, 2019
A Nation Under God
Life is never static. It is in constant motion effecting change, making history. The movement of that change writes the history of our lives and our nation. Some changes are loud and offensive, while others are silent and subtle. We quickly adjust to the loud and offensive movements so as to keep everything on track, but it is the silent and subtle movements that we miss. When those slow-moving cultural movements start effecting the foundation of our survival as a society, they must be exposed, and the people must ask themselves what kind of nation they want. Our enemies know what it takes to remove the foundations of our nation, foundations which keep us as a nation under God free. The history of ancient Israel and her relationship to God, as seen in Scripture, gives to us a lesson in what not to do if we want to remain a nation under God. How did their youth treat their elders, and how did their false prophets turn the people away from God? How did God become irrelevant to a people so blessed by Him? Was God redefined by society in both the religious and the secular, and was His standard of morality redefined as well? These are questions asked and hopefully answered in this writing.

Righteous Violence

release date: Jan 01, 2011
Righteous Violence
Righteous Violence examines the struggles with the violence of slavery and revolution that engaged the imaginations of seven nineteenth-century American writers--Margaret Fuller, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Frederick Douglass, Henry David Thoreau, Louisa May Alcott, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Herman Melville. These authors responded not only to the state terror of slavery and the Civil War but also to more problematic violent acts, including unlawful revolts, insurrections, riots, and strikes that resulted in bloodshed and death. Rather than position these writers for or against the struggle for liberty, Larry J. Reynolds examines the profoundly contingent and morally complex perspectives of each author. Tracing the shifting and troubled moral arguments in their work, Reynolds shows that these writers, though committed to peace and civil order, at times succumbed to bloodlust, even while they expressed ambivalence about the very violence they approved. For many of these authors, the figure of John Brown loomed large as an influence and a challenge. Reynolds examines key works such as Fuller''s European dispatches, Emerson''s political lectures, Douglass''s novella The Heroic Slave, Thoreau''s Walden, Alcott''s Moods, Hawthorne''s late unfinished romances, and Melville''s Billy Budd. In addition to demonstrating the centrality of righteous violence to the American Renaissance, this study deepens and complicates our understanding of political violence beyond the dichotomies of revolution and murder, liberty and oppression, good and evil.

André Citroën

release date: Jan 01, 2006
André Citroën
This convenient new compendium contains the five most philosophically significant of Nietzsche’s post-Thus Spoke Zarathustra writings. Nietzsche wrote of these works that he intended them as “fish hooks” for catching readers who shared his sense that a cataclysmic shift in human psychology had suddenly occurred with the advent of nihilism – the uncanny and pervasive feeling that life is devoid of all meaning, purpose, and value. Taken together these books offer the reader a definitive account of Nietzsche’s mature philosophy as he intended it to be presented and a sweeping attack upon everything the modern Western world holds to be good about itself.
