Stimare il valore di un volume è la specialità di Cliff Janeway, ex poliziotto di Denver e adesso libraio. Anche un esperto di libri come lui, però, può essere messo a dura prova da alcune prime edizioni firmate da personaggi noti. Come si fa ad avere la certezza che un autografo sia au-tentico? Perché le falsificazioni sembrano vere? Gli stessi problemi si presentano nel corso di un’indagine per omicidio in una piccola città di nome Paradise, nel Colorado. Janeway ac-cetta di dare una mano per il processo alla sua amata, l’avvocato Erin D’Angelo.
