Joe Sacco se v Posredniku (The Fixer) znajde v Bosni, kjer se je odvijala že zgodba njegovega prvega večjega dela o Balkanu, Varovanega območja Goražde. V Sarajevo se je vrnil leta 2001 in se tam srečal z Nevenom, vojnim veteranom, ki je zanj delal že med vojno in je tujemu novinarju za pravo ceno lahko priskrbel karkoli. Avtor je počasi začutil, da je Nevenova zgodba – subjektivno izkustvo vojne – izredno zanimiva sama na sebi. Sacco tako prek Nevena pripoveduje zgodbe paravojaških šefov in mafijcev, ki so državi vladali med vojno, hkrati pa se – skupaj z bralcem – nenehno sprašuje, koliko resnice je v Nevenovih besedah.

Joe Sacco, born in Brooklyn, New York, currently resides in Montgomery County, Maryland with his wife, five boys and two rescue shelties. He was a science teacher and principal in Montgomery County, Maryland. Currently, he is the Associate Director of Education for Friends of the National Zoo in Washington DC. He was inspired to write this book after a trip to Churchill, Canada. During this trip, he met a large male bear, Dancer. Dancer would like to remind us all that "everyone, regardless of age, can make a difference."
