Linguistic Accents

Linguistic Accents
My life has been guided by my linguistic interests. I grew up in a bilingual household, and lived between 2 countries all my life. The search for meaning through linguistics and religion lead me to travel and observe how people's lifestyles and beliefs impacted their Language. I have a degree in Linguistics but this is not an academic book. This book is a light-hearted recall of the observations I've made throughout my almost 30 years of being in this world. My parents moved to France when I was a baby and that was the perfect setting for everything that was to come.I discuss many themes from how sexism and racism affect language and vice-versa, to how and why I learnt Portuguese. We'll take a look at the heavy relations between Language and Identity as well as the funny side to why kids misinterpret language and end up saying hilarious phrases. I get a little personal with an intimate story in each chapter that leads me to reveal how I observed these linguistic accents that have flavored my life. I've also included some of my essays I wrote during my Bachelor's degree as they relate to the book and give more in-depth explanations of the Linguistic aspects I've come across.
