"A precursor to implementing effective health communications is gathering formative research, according to a variety of health communication models.... Through a collaborative effort among the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), the Area Health Consortium (AHEC) Program, and the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs at Western Illinois University, a research project was developed. The goal was to create highly effective health communications geared toward consumers and to provide formative research results to providers and agencies associated with adult arthritis management in rural Illinois communities. The results from this study are not limited to arthritis management, but are applicable to other health campaigns targeting rural residents as well.
