Colors of Retroreflective Traffic Sign Materials when Illuminated by High-intensity-discharge Headlights

Colors of Retroreflective Traffic Sign Materials when Illuminated by High-intensity-discharge Headlights
This analytical study evaluated the colorimetric properties of retroreflective traffic signs when illuminated by high-intensity-discharge (HID) headlamps. Two aspects were investigated: (1) colorimetric shifts of individual sign materials when illuminated by HID light sources as opposed to halogen, and (2) colorimetric separations of the red sign material from yellow, orange, and brown sign materials when illuminated by HID light sources. Spectral reluctances of sign materials and spectral power distributions of HID (and halogen) light sources were used to derive the CIE tristimulus values for the sign materials. These values were then transformed into the CIELAB space –a perceptually uniform color space. The results of the analyses indicate that the magnitude of the colorimetric shift increased with increasing correlated color temperature of the light source. The resulting colorimetric separations of red from yellow, orange, and brown for the HID light sources also tended to increase with increasing correlated color temperature, with the highest-temperature HID light source tested yielding greater colorimetric separations than halogen.

1.5 Meter Aperture Precision On-axis Light Gatherer

1.5 Meter Aperture Precision On-axis Light Gatherer
Research directed toward the design, fabrication, and partial testing of optics for future selenodetic-optical-ranging investigations, has resulted in a 60-inch special-purpose telescope and related housing, now installed at the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, Catalina Observatory, Site II. The successful use of an aluminum alloy (Tenzalloy) for the optics of this instrument continues to advance the current technology of metal mirrors for special astronomic applications. The improved design of this special-purpose telescope over earlier models still in use at the Observatory, increased its efficiency and ease of operation during tests and observing programs. Leaves of Absence and Time Off from Work Manual
"California and federal laws create numerous statutory rules that provide employees the right to leaves of absence. More than 12 statutes now govern the rules in this area. The evolution of these laws has dramatically eroded the freedom employers formerly had to grant or deny time off requests. In many cases, several laws may provide an employee overlapping protections through a complicated system of rules. In this new publication, Attorney Richard J. Simmons. . . examines the key statutory rules and obligations they create."--Publisher''s web site.

Employer's Guide to the Federal Family and Medical Leave Act
The FMLA represents the first federal law that guarantees employees the right to take leaves to care for newborn children, adopted children, and seriously ill family members. It also allows employees to take leaves needed due to their own serious health conditions. The law usually requires employers to maintain health insurance benefits in effect, continue life and disability insurance, allow the use of vacation and sick leave benefits, and comply with numerous other rules. These rules regulate employee handbooks, written notice, record-keeping, and posting requirements. It also establishes serious sanctions and penalties that can be imposed against employers who do not comply. -- from publisher.
