This paper describes the problem of sustained numerical oscillations which occur when the trapezoidal rule of integration is used to analyze power systems with converter circuits. The Critical Damping Adjustment (CDA) scheme for suppressing these oscillations is discussed.The usefulness of this scheme is shown for a case where the supply from a synchronous generator through a 3 phase rectifier bridge is switched to a battery source.

In this document a general method to calculate the impedances of single-core coaxial underground distribution cables is derived. Based on loop equations, the semi-conducting layers on the outside of the conductor and insulation are treated as extra conductors. The impedances calculated with this approach are compared against the results from the support routine Cable Constants of the DCG/EPRI EMTP.
