In the 25th century Thomas Parker recounts to his son one of the Justice LeagueÕs adventures, in explanation of an exhibit in their honor in the Space Museum. Unknown to the JLA, the demons Abnegazar, Rath and Ghast had caused the mystic Jar, Bell and Wheel used to imprison them to be left behind in the Souvenir Room of the original Secret Sanctuary when the Justice League moved to their satellite headquarters. There, the artifacts were eventually discovered and used to free the demons from their crypts. The evil trio attacked the satellite during a meeting and was repulsed, then battled the heroes a second time at Stonehenge. In this rematch, ZatannaÕs magic proved the key to their defeat by reactivating the imprisonment spell using the Jar, Bell and Wheel.

Armed with HawkmanÕs repellor-discs, which prevent Starro from taking control of them as he has their fellow members, Batman, Aquaman, the Flash, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Elongated Man and Zatanna mount a counterattack on Starro and his mind-slaves. If they fail, the authorities may be forced to destroy New York to prevent the spread of StarroÕs endlessly replicating duplicates. The problem is solved by two ÒvictimsÓ who escape StarroÕs control. Red Tornado, whose computer mind is not affected as a human brain would be by StarroÕs influence, blacks out the city, leaving Starro without an energy source, and Terry Watson, by hiding in a food freezer, enables Hawkman and Hawkgirl to discover that intense cold can not only free the alien conquerorÕs victims, but also defeat Starro himself. Firestorm and Green Lantern, their minds freed from StarroÕs control, bombard him with ice and freeze him solid, while ZatannaÕs magic chills the air, disposing of the duplicates across the city.

Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and Zatanna, now in the bodies of the Secret Society members, escape imprisonment aboard the JLA satellite and attempt to return to their true forms.
