DNR is a work of fiction based on facts encompassing conditions in large city hospitals as they existed in the 1970s and ''80s. Patients who appeared brain-dead were left on mechanical ventilators and feeding tubes.

Geraldine was born into a wealthy, loving and happy family. Her parents'' only child, she had a happy childhood with parents who were there for her. The young Geraldine was happy to have a life full of privilege and prestige. Despite her parents'' professional obligations, they are there for their daughter. This love and attention that her parents give her, will naturally allow her to be an exemplary and brilliant student at school and to succeed in finding an excellent professional path after her university studies. In her everyday life, she is cheerful, full of life and empathetic. She feels only positive emotions. In this extension of happiness, she met Bertrand Beaumont one night through a friend: it was love at first sight. In love, the two got married a few months later. Geraldine was over the moon! She lived a real fairy tale with a husband, friends and family who loved her. She wished only one thing, "that the fairy tale would continue."However, a tragedy breaks the rhythm of this virtuous life. Bertrand, her husband, died of a stroke. He was only 32 years old. Geraldine is in shock. She sinks into a deep depression. She feels guilty. This failure will then plunge her into a real fragility. She will thus pass from the jovial and full of life woman that she was, to a person of anxious, melancholic and solitary. She is now filled with many negative thoughts that even lead her to have suicidal thoughts. Her loved ones come to her rescue, but there is no solution. She has only one desire: to cut herself off from the world and withdraw into herself. She does this because all the solutions she dares to try are not satisfying. It is then that she will decide to live in autarky, refusing any outside help. Fortunately, during this withdrawal, she will then manifest an introspection which pushes her to observe and analyze herself in order to find the useful resources to get out of this negative spiral. It is in this perspective that she becomes aware of the importance of failure and its value in her life. Thanks to other methods, which she sets up herself, she will manage to overcome this difficult ordeal and to recreate a happy and fulfilled life.

A periodical article published in the Steubenville Herald-Star newspaper by Geraldine M. Cohen, Executive Secretary of the Jefferson County Taxpayers Association from 1978-1991. The Association operated from 1976 until 1996. Documents found and edited by Alan Hall, Director Emeritus, Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County (Ohio) and published in 2021.

Now all of her lofty childhood dreams have been fulfilled and she is ready to share her wonderful life with other readers.

This book is about my sister, Faith Marie, who died of cancer at the age of fifty. Over the next several nights after her death, we had many conversations of heaven and its workings. She told me of the many different colors present in heaven and the meaning of the colors. There is also the violet flame. As with many, I thought heaven was a glorious place to go and never thought of what heaven really entailed. It took Faith that many days to explain everything to me. She is now free from pain and suffering and is safe in the arms of God.

But she couldnt prove it for sure, because Dujuna Jean and her beautiful tormented mother werent telling.

This essential resource includes multiple strategies physicians can employ to protect themselves from lawsuits which will positively impact the physician/patient relationship by enriching it and ultimately keeping patients safer. Each chapter includes case studies and real-life examples from experienced physicians and attorneys who defend physicians involved in medical malpractice cases.

Research suggests college students with high incidence disabilities experience more distress than their peers without disabilities as they adapt to college. The expressive writing paradigm developed by Pennebaker and Beall (1986) effectively reduced distress in college students and other nonclinical samples when participants wrote about emotions they experienced surrounding an upsetting event. Previous research on expressive writing has not addressed the effectiveness of the paradigm with students with disabilities. A randomized control trial study examined changes in distress and daily hassles for participants with disabilities who engaged in expressive writing compared to a control condition in which participants wrote about non-emotional topics. Emotional competencies and coping were also explored as possible proximal outcomes, while distress at baseline and social support were explored as possible moderators of expressive writing outcomes. Fifty seven students, 51% male and mostly European-American (83.6%), from a large, public university and a local community college both in the Southeastern United States, wrote for 15 minutes on three consecutive days on their own personal computers, with assessment at pre-test, post-test and 30-day follow-up. Expressive writing did not significantly decrease stress or daily hassles, nor did treatment condition differ from the control condition on any of the factors examined. Discussion of participant factors explored possible ceiling effects due to low baseline distress scores and possible limitations related to employing a sample of students with disabilities who are currently receiving college-level support services. Other methodological and procedural issues were also discussed as they relate to best expressive writing practices as well as meeting the needs of students with disabilities. For example, although use of the computer for writing was deemed important for this group of participants, longer writing sessions that may be necessary to impact psychological outcomes could be difficult for students with disabilities. Future directions include qualitative analysis of writing samples in order to develop areas of concern for this population, beginning and ending expressive writing to align with the college academic calendar, as well as use of a control group without disabilities in order to control for baseline levels of distress.
