Après avoir pris contact avec ses interlocuteurs, Fabien Vehlmann leur donne rendez-vous dans un lieu de leur choix, généralement un café. Parfois, il peut lui arriver d’utiliser un jeu de cartes «questions/réponses», réalisé pour l’occasion, qui lui permet d’entrer plus rapidement dans le vif du sujet : à lui de débusquer au milieu du foisonnement de souvenirs évoqués le détail intriguant, la formulation juste, le mot frappant, la pensée originale, l’expérience édifiante. Spirou doit se rendre à l''évidence devant les photos du Marsupilami offertes par Don Contralto (à la fin du tome 54) : il n''a aucun souvenir de cette aventure. Et Fantasio pas plus que lui. Quant au comte de Champignac, il entre dans de terribles colères dès qu''on évoque le petit animal à queue préhensile et contondante. Tout ça ne peut avoir qu''une explication : ils ont été zorglondisés pour leur faire oublier qu''ils ont été un jour les amis du Marsupilami.
