The domain of evaluative morphology is vast and complex, as it requires the combination of morphological, semantic and pragmatic information to be understood. Nevertheless, cross-linguistic studies on spoken languages show that languages share some patterns in the way they encode evaluative features. It follows that investigating evaluative morphology in sign languages (SLs) can enrich the literature and offer new insights. This book provides descriptive and theoretical contributions by considering Italian Sign Language (LIS) as empirical ground of investigation. At the descriptive level, the analysis of corpus and elicited data improves the description of morphological processes in LIS, as well as typological studies on evaluative morphology by adding the patterns of a visuo-gestural language. At the theoretical level, the study shows the benefit of combining different approaches (Generative Linguistics, Linguistic Typology, Cognitive Linguistics) for the exploration of evaluative constructions in SLs, as it allows to identify both modality-specific and modality-independent properties. Contextualizing zidishu in Qing dynasty Beijing, this book examines both bilingual (Manchu-Chinese) and pure Chinese texts, recalls performance venues and features, and discusses their circulation and reception into the early twentieth century. With its original translations, musical score, and numerous illustrations of hand-copied and printed zidishu texts, this study opens a new window into Qing literature and provides a broader basis for evaluating the process of cultural hybridization. To go beyond readily available texts, author Elena Chiu engaged in intensive fieldwork and archival research, examining approximately four hundred hand-copied and printed zidishu texts housed in libraries in Mainland China, Taiwan, Germany, and Japan. Negotiation has been since ever omnipresent. It can confront us in our daily life, for example the question who is doing the dishes today or in much more complex is-sues, such as in economics or politics. "Simply defined, negotiation is the process of attempting to get what one wants, through agreement with one or more other par-ties." There are different tools with which negotiations can be modeled. One of them is game theory. "GAME THEORY aims to help us understand situations in which decision-makers interact. A game in the everyday sense - a competitive activity in which players contend with each other according to a set of rules." According to the definition, game theory is an appropriate tool to apply for negotiations and get the best outcome of it. It can make it easier for us to analyze our own needs, the least acceptable agreement, and desires, the most desired outcome, but also the ones of our opponent. Consequently, game theory allows us to estimate the strategy the other party is going to use. Moreover, game theory reaches back far in history. There had been recognized some game theoretic situations even in the bible. But the major development started in the 1920s. First, game theory was a mathematic discipline. The two mathematicians, John von Neumann and Emile Borel worked on game theory and subsequently the book Theory of games and economic behavior was published by von Neumann and Oskar Morgenstern in 1944. Later, in the 1950s, game theory was not only considered to be a mathematician discipline, but it has been also applied in "economic theory and political science, and psychologists began studying how human subjects behave in experimental games."

A novel theoretical framework for an embodied, non-representational approach to language that extends and deepens enactive theory, bridging the gap between sensorimotor skills and language. Linguistic Bodies offers a fully embodied and fully social treatment of human language without positing mental representations. The authors present the first coherent, overarching theory that connects dynamical explanations of action and perception with language. Arguing from the assumption of a deep continuity between life and mind, they show that this continuity extends to language. Expanding and deepening enactive theory, they offer a constitutive account of language and the co-emergent phenomena of personhood, reflexivity, social normativity, and ideality. Language, they argue, is not something we add to a range of existing cognitive capacities but a new way of being embodied. Each of us is a linguistic body in a community of other linguistic bodies. The book describes three distinct yet entangled kinds of human embodiment, organic, sensorimotor, and intersubjective; it traces the emergence of linguistic sensitivities and introduces the novel concept of linguistic bodies; and it explores the implications of living as linguistic bodies in perpetual becoming, applying the concept of linguistic bodies to questions of language acquisition, parenting, autism, grammar, symbol, narrative, and gesture, and to such ethical concerns as microaggression, institutional speech, and pedagogy.

Rzhevskaya, a young military interpreter, was with them. Almost accidentally the Soviet military found the charred remains of Hitler and Eva Braun. Rzhevskaya was entrusted with the proof of the Hitler''s death: his teeth wrenched from his corpse by a pathologist hours earlier. The teeth were given to Rzhevskaya because they believed male agents were more likely to get drunk on Victory Day, blurt out the secret and lose the evidence. She interrogated Hitler''s dentist''s assistant who confirmed the teeth were his. Elena''s role as an interpreter allowed her to forge a link between the Soviet troops and the Germans.
