Mata Hari war der Künstlername der niederländischen Tänzerin Margaretha Geertruida Zelle (1876-1917). Während ihrer Ehe verwendete sie auch die Namen Marguerite Campbell und Lady Gretha MacLeod. Als Spionin für den deutschen Geheimdienst führte sie den Decknamen H 21. Mata Hari war in der Zeit vor und während des Ersten Weltkrieges als exotische Nackttänzerin und exzentrische Künstlerin berühmt. Daneben gilt sie heute als bekannteste Spionin aller Zeiten. Aus dem Buch: "Der Bezirksarzt bei der Pariser Sittenpolizei, Dr. Bizard, berichtet in seiner Studie über den schlechten Lebenswandel während des Krieges, daß er die berühmte Mata Hari in einem öffentlichen Hause kennengelernt habe, lange, bevor sie wegen Spionage zum Tode verurteilt werden sollte.
