Robert Archibald was born 12 December 1812 on Prince Edward Island. His parents were Thomas Archibald (1775-1841) and Margaret. He married Helen Paterson (1812-1890) 11 March 1834 in Glasgow, Scotland. They had nine children. They emigrated in 1841 and settled in South Africa. Robert died in 1850 in Kruisfontein.
