Going along with the boy to his home of Arin Island, Bruce finds that mystical forces are working to have him solve a mystery on the island as Batman. Learning of a local legend of the Red Sea that has killed many (including Sean''s parents) and the supposed cases of haunting on the island, Batman soon learns that it is businessman Alysius Cabot. Charley Tree, who has been adopted by the Apache Tribe, escapes and declares a one-man war against the entire white race. Billy and Colt are pitted against the horrific but compelling Charley. When they meet, only one can live. “In Dixson’s Edge, author Dennis O’Keefe paints a vivid portrait of the Old West, rich in authentic detail. He draws skillful contrasts between the harshness of his characters’ lives and their surprising moments of poignant grace and humor.” Jill Baer, writer for the Love Boat “Dixson’s Edge is a riveting saga that brings to life the Old West. Dennis O’Keefe is a gifted story-teller creating vivid original characters clashing with each other as they set forth on a dangerous path.” Golda David, Writer/Producer “It will have you on the edge of your chair.” Alan Caruba, Bookviews “O’Keefe’s novel is not the stereotypical western with bad guys versus the good guys. “Dixons Edge” is a story of psychological complexity about the connections between various individuals.” Henry Berry, Small Press Book Review “I highly recommend this book! 4.5 star rating!” Jennifer Leese, Storyweaver-Book Review Finalist in the 2000 International Writer''s Network competition Winner Best Fiction, National Publishers Freedom Awards 2000

Catwoman: A Celebration of 75 Years

release date: Nov 24, 2015
Catwoman: A Celebration of 75 Years
First appearing on newsstands in 1940’s BATMAN #1, only a few months after the Bat-Man himself debuted, Catwoman has been essential to the Dark Knight’s world from almost the very beginning. Menacing (and sometimes romancing) the Caped Crusader for more than seven decades, Catwoman has become one of Batman’s greatest villains, but also one of his greatest allies. Friend or foe, Gotham’s feline femme fatale continually skirts the line between right and wrong. She’s a dangerous criminal whose claws aren’t to be crossed, but she’s also the city’s Robin Hood, using her unlawful talents to help those in need. This rich contradiction has made her one of the most complex and compelling characters in all of comics. CATWOMAN: A CELEBRATION OF 75 YEARS is a stunning retrospective of Catwoman’s history, featuring stories from comic book legends Bob Kane, Bill Finger, Dennis O’Neil, Dick Giordano, Len Wein, Kurt Schaffenberger, Chuck Dixon, Ed Brubaker, Cameron Stewart, Darwyn Cooke, Tim Sale, Paul Dini, Guillem March and more.

Now Batman, Robin, and Nightwing must search for survivors among the rubble, while battling old enemies such as Clayface, Mister Freeze, Mad Hatter, and other villains preying on a devastated Gotham. The Dark Knight and his partners may be stretched too thin as society begins to break down while the citizens of Gotham flee their destroyed home, and the ones who stay turn on each other. Will even the full support of Commissioner Gordon and the Gotham City police force be enough to rebuild Gotham? Or is the city too far gone to be saved? BATMAN: ROAD TO NO MAN’S LAND VOL. 1 collects for the first time the complete “Aftershock” storyline that rocked the Bat family and started them on the path to “No Man’s Land.” Reprinting DETECTIVE COMICS #722, #724-726, BATMAN #555-559, BATMAN: SHADOW OF THE BAT#75-79, ROBIN #54, and THE BATMAN CHRONICLES #14.

The White River Badlands

release date: May 25, 2015
The White River Badlands
This guide to the South Dakota region that houses the world’s richest fossil beds does “an excellent job of presenting the current state of knowledge” (Choice). The forbidding Big Badlands in Western South Dakota contain the richest fossil beds in the world. Even today these rocks continue to yield new specimens brought to light by snowmelt and rain washing away soft rock deposited on a floodplain long ago. The quality and quantity of the fossils are superb: most of the species to be found there are known from hundreds of specimens. The fossils in the White River Group (and similar deposits in the American west) preserve the entire late Eocene through the middle Oligocene, roughly 35-30 million years ago and more than thirty million years after non-avian dinosaurs became extinct. The fossils provide a detailed record of a period of abrupt global cooling and what happened to creatures who lived through it. This book is a comprehensive reference to the sediments and fossils of the Big Badlands, and also touches on National Park Service management policies that help protect such significant fossils. Includes photos and illustrations “A worthy successor to the work of O’Harra.” —Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology

Teaching Information Fluency

release date: Nov 14, 2013
Teaching Information Fluency
Teaching Information Fluency describes the skills and dispositions of information fluency adept searchers. Readers will receive in-depth information on what it takes to locate, evaluate, and ethically use digital information. The book realistically examines the abilities of Internet searchers today in terms of their efficiency and effectiveness in finding online information, evaluating it and using it ethically. Since the majority of people develop these skills on their own, rather than being taught, the strategies they invent may suffice for simple searches, but for more complex tasks, such as those required by academic and professional work, the average person’s performance is adequate only about 50% of the time. The book is laid out in five parts: an introduction to the problem and how search engine improvements are not sufficient to be of real help, speculative searching, investigative searching, ethical use and applications of information fluency. The intent of the book is to provide readers ways to improve their performance as consumers of digital information and to help teachers devise useful ways to integrate information fluency instruction into their teaching, since deliberate instruction is needed to develop fluency. Since it is unlikely that dedicated class time will be available for such instruction, the approach taken embeds information fluency activities into classroom instruction in language arts, history and science. Numerous model lessons and resources are woven into the fabric of the text, including think-alouds, individual and group search challenges, discussions, assessments and curation, all targeted to Common Core State Standards as well as information fluency competencies.
