The Avenue
Pu003eIn the summer of 1957, two rival gangs fight for control of the Avenue, a neighborhood in the north Bronx. The mafia, led by Albert Anastasia--a man known as the lord high executioner--is the only force holding the gangs back from all-out war. Since such a conflict would cripple the mafia''s drug and gambling empire, a warning is delivered to the gangs: make a move, and you''ll pay for it. Johnny Piscalli, leader of the Italian Berettas, and Louis Washington, leader of the Egyptian Kings, try to contain their respective gang members, knowing it would take very little to light the fuse. The situation ignites when the sister of an Egyptian King is abducted, beaten, raped, and left for dead. If the girl identifies her attacker, a race war is certain-- so the mafia plans to eliminate her. Twenty years later, a priest is murdered while taking confession in a north Bronx church. More bodies turn up around the country, too, with one common denominator: the Avenue. Local cop Lieutenant Billy Mongelli teams up with FBI Agent Lou Iozzino to find the answers to these killings--but in order to do so, they must return to 1957 and stop a conflict decades in the making.

Catwoman: A Celebration of 75 Years

release date: Nov 24, 2015
Catwoman: A Celebration of 75 Years
First appearing on newsstands in 1940’s BATMAN #1, only a few months after the Bat-Man himself debuted, Catwoman has been essential to the Dark Knight’s world from almost the very beginning. Menacing (and sometimes romancing) the Caped Crusader for more than seven decades, Catwoman has become one of Batman’s greatest villains, but also one of his greatest allies. Friend or foe, Gotham’s feline femme fatale continually skirts the line between right and wrong. She’s a dangerous criminal whose claws aren’t to be crossed, but she’s also the city’s Robin Hood, using her unlawful talents to help those in need. This rich contradiction has made her one of the most complex and compelling characters in all of comics. CATWOMAN: A CELEBRATION OF 75 YEARS is a stunning retrospective of Catwoman’s history, featuring stories from comic book legends Bob Kane, Bill Finger, Dennis O’Neil, Dick Giordano, Len Wein, Kurt Schaffenberger, Chuck Dixon, Ed Brubaker, Cameron Stewart, Darwyn Cooke, Tim Sale, Paul Dini, Guillem March and more.

Shekels, Dollars, & Sense

release date: Feb 19, 2007
Shekels, Dollars, & Sense
The Bible presents a seemingly inconsistent teaching on financial stewardship. This apparent confusion is reflected in sermons, books and journal articles. Advocates abound for (1) tithing, for (2) tithing plus giving, for (3) no tithing but gracious giving. Church leaders clearly need money, but how to convince the people in the pews to be faithful stewards of God with their finances remains allusive. If they preach tithing, some may balk at the Old Testament basis for the doctrine. If they proclaim that tithing is a Christian duty and a starting point only for genuine giving, others may claim that they are "New Testament Christians" and live under grace not law. If they present no definitive teaching about the Bible and money, adequate finances may not be given. At the heart of the problem lies the need to clarify the biblical doctrine of financial stewardship. This book attempts that goal. The author investigates the tithing patterns of the Old Testament prior to the giving of the Mosaic Law and within the Mosaic Law. With these matters clarified, he then shines the light on intertestamental Judaism and the passages in the Gospels that mention tithing as part of the Old Testament economy. A remarkable consistency is discovered at the level of biblical theology. Finally, the New Testament Church giving patterns are thoroughly investigated beginning with the early Jerusalem Church and extending throughout the known world. Continuity and discontinuity appear continuity in biblical theology and discontinuity in custom and legal requirements between the Old and New Testaments. The biblical doctrine of financial stewardship and the divine mandate for the Christian become clear. The last two chapters of the book transfer the biblical teaching to the 21st century American church scene. Theological and practical considerations are presented without trying to "legislate" solutions.
