Mead schreibt über den Verfasser: "Dem New Yorker David Low Dodge (1774-1852) ist es als hohe Ehre anzurechnen, dass er in den Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika die frühesten Flugschriften veröffentlichte, die ausdrücklich gegen das Kriegssystem der Nationen gerichtet sind. Außerdem gründete er die in Amerika, ja in der ganzen Welt erste Friedensgesellschaft. Seine erste Flugschrift: ''The Mediator''s Kingdom not of this World'' (Das Reich des Mittlers ist nicht von dieser Welt) wurde 1809 veröffentlicht. Seine zweite und wichtigere Flugschrift: ''War Inconsistent with the Religion of Jesus Christ'' wurde 1812 in Druck gegeben ... Anfang 1812 berieten sich Dodge und seine Freunde in New York über die Notwendigkeit der Gründung einer Friedensgesellschaft ... Im August 1815 gründeten sie die New York Peace Society.
