Mig the Pig

Mig the Pig
These simple, engaging rhyming books are a great way to get your kids started with reading. Colin and Jacqui Hawkins first created Pat the Cat to help their daughter to learn to read. The rhyming split pages helped her to recognise lots of new words simply by changing a single letter as she turned each page and she quickly caught on to the basic mechanics of reading. The Hawkins then went on to produce Jen the Hen, Mig the Pig, Tog the Dog and Zug the Bug (also available from DK). Teachers recognised the books as excellent introductions to reading and reviewers compared them to Dr Seuss. Children loved their rhyming humour and parents have been using them successfully ever since!

Mig the Pig's Big Book

Mig the Pig's Big Book
3Meet Mig the pig, Who1s very big, and rides in a gig. But where1s her wig?2 This oversize illustrated book is ideal for whole class shared reading with beginners. Humorous rhyming stories supported by bold and appealing illustrations provides a range of opportunities to cover aspects of work at the text, word, and sentence levels. The flip-the-page format of the original small book has been retained, allowing the whole class to understand that if they can read MIG they can read PIG, WIG, and lots of other simple words that follow the same CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) pattern. Children will quickly get the idea that they can create and recognize strings of rhyming CVC words simply by changing the initial consonant. A DK Big Book.
