This selection has been made by the poet himself from his eleven collections, published from 1959 in Australia, and then since 1980 by Oxford University Press, up to the most recent title, Rungs of Time. He has chosen poems that still ''work'' for his readers, and which bear witness to past selves.

A variable limited edition artists'' book of nine monotypes and six poems produced as a collaboration between poet Chris Wallace-Crabbe and artist Bruno Leti. Bruno Leti designed the book and printed the monotypes in his Melbourne studio. The text, set in 18pt. Bembo Bold (with the poems all in capitals), was screen-printed by Larry Rawling on 300 gsm Hahnmuhle paper at his Fitzroy workshop. Norbert Herold made the covers and slipcase.

This is the fourth collection of poetry by Chris Wallace-Crabbe, a cosmopolitan poet who once again covers a wide range of subjects in a style that is sometimes "deadly serious," sometimes intensely playful and witty, sometimes quite simple in its celebration of the poet''s home country, Australia. In Rungs of Time the clutter of living both enchants and perplexes the poet: a poem that lists a hundred or so things that "are in the saddle and ride mankind" contrasts with philosophical introspection.
