Eric Walter White Correspondence Files Concerning Publishing the Poetry Book Society Christmas 1966 Supplement in Memory of John Hayward
Eric W. White edited a Christmas 1966 supplement of poems for the Poetry Book Society (London) in memory of John Hayward. White notes, "In choosing the poems for this Supplement I have gone partly to poets he knew and liked, and partly to new poets who at the time of his death in 1965 had not yet had a chance of making their name." The collection contains correspondence with twelve British poets, their submission, proofs with corrections, and the final printed publication. The poets and their poem include W.H. Auden ("River profile"), George Barker ("The Clock is banging"), Jack Clemo ("Carmel"), Harry Fainlight ("Wolstonbury"), David Jones ("A, a, a, domine deus"), Richard Murphy ("Military history"), Norman Nicholson ("Have you been to London?"), Brian Patten ("Little Johnny''s letter home"), Tom Pickard ("The Game bird"), Edgell Rickword ("On choosing a Christmas card for a close friend"), Vernon Watkins ("The Measure moves"), and Sheila Wingfield ("The Possibility").
