¿Por qué E=mc2?

release date: Feb 14, 2013

The Quantum Universe

release date: Jan 31, 2012
The Quantum Universe
International bestselling authors Brian Cox and Jeff Forshaw''s fascinating, entertaining, and clear introduction to quantum mechanics In The Quantum Universe, Brian Cox and Jeff Forshaw approach the world of quantum mechanics in the same way they did in Why Does E=mc2? and make fundamental scientific principles accessible-and fascinating-to everyone. The subatomic realm has a reputation for weirdness, spawning any number of profound misunderstandings, journeys into Eastern mysticism, and woolly pronouncements on the interconnectedness of all things. Cox and Forshaw''s contention? There is no need for quantum mechanics to be viewed this way. There is a lot of mileage in the "weirdness" of the quantum world, and it often leads to confusion and, frankly, bad science. The Quantum Universe cuts through the Wu Li and asks what observations of the natural world made it necessary, how it was constructed, and why we are confident that, for all its apparent strangeness, it is a good theory. The quantum mechanics of The Quantum Universe provide a concrete model of nature that is comparable in its essence to Newton''s laws of motion, Maxwell''s theory of electricity and magnetism, and Einstein''s theory of relativity.

7 Knights

7 Knights
Recent West Point graduate Walt Tyler has nearly everything in life: respect as a successful quarterback, the affection of an attractive doctor, and a well laid-out military career. But Walt is plunged into the fight of his life when terrorists begin killing off the hidden network of Templar Knights, led by seven vital figures. Walt''s grandfather, newly elected U.S. President Preston Tyler, one of the seven, holds the key to protecting the knights. He reveals to Walt the clandestine establishment intended to protect Christians during the last days. Having existed since the inception of the Knights Templar, the cryptic order of the Seven Knights has remained veiled for centuries. Brought up through history under the blanket of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, the Seven Knights maintain an exclusive membership of only seven men, powerful individuals including politicians, military leaders, corporate geniuses, and financiers from around the globe. The sudden attack on the knights can only mean one thing: the antichrist is coming. In Brian Cox''s gripping novel, Walt and Preston''s desperate escape leads them along a modern underground railroad through the long-established safe havens of the Biltmore and the Hermitage as they attempt to discover by whom their death is being sought and how their centuries-old secret has leaked. Can Walt and Preston stop the terrorists before all Seven Knights are murdered?

Why Does E=mc2?

release date: Jul 14, 2009
Why Does E=mc2?
The international bestseller: an introduction to the theory of relativity by the eminent physicists Brian Cox and Jeff Forshaw What does E=mc2 actually mean? Dr. Brian Cox and Professor Jeff Forshaw go on a journey to the frontier of twenty-first century science to unpack Einstein''s famous equation. Explaining and simplifying notions of energy, mass, and light-while exploding commonly held misconceptions-they demonstrate how the structure of nature itself is contained within this equation. Along the way, we visit the site of one of the largest scientific experiments ever conducted: the now-famous Large Hadron Collider, a gigantic particle accelerator capable of re-creating conditions that existed fractions of a second after the Big Bang. A collaboration between one of the youngest professors in the United Kingdom and a distinguished popular physicist, Why Does E=mc2? is one of the most exciting and accessible explanations of the theory of relativity.

The Safety Crusaders

The Safety Crusaders
This Three-Books-in-One package is probably the ultimate authority in the field of child protection and safety, not only because the primary author is an experienced police officer and law enforcement college instructor, but because it is presented as training manuals for both parents and children. The author states that "talking to" your children is ineffective. Children who have been told never to talk to or go with a stranger always fail when put to the test. Children must be trained using sound principles of child education. This book provides excellent information about child safety and protection, plus the methodology to teach it effectively. The third book in the package provides excellent stories and poems from the "Days of Yore", with full color illustrations to teach children in an entertaining manner.

Emeritus

release date: Jan 01, 2001
Emeritus
The leisure in which Brian Cox now writes his poems is hard-earned. Poetry, always his chief passion as reader and teacher, was forced to the edges of his life during the years in which he followed his other vocation in the world of education. When, shortly before his retirement in 1993, his Collected Poems appeared, it was clear that he had managed to write distinctive verse against the odds. His new collection has the freshness of a writer set free in a world which before contrained him. The presence of a physical universe, fulfilling all the senses, is palpable in his language; there is also an undercurrent of impassioned memory and what one critic called - in relation to this Collected Poems - anticipatory elegy, the accepted knowledge of change and loss. There is an ambitious series of poems dedicated to writers and artists he admires: Saul Bellow, Chekhov, Van Gogh and Walter Benjamin.

The Lear Diaries

release date: Jan 01, 1995
The Lear Diaries
One of the most frank and authentic accounts yet written of the pressures placed on today''s stars King Lear is perhaps the most challenging role in the Shakespearian canon. In 1991, directed by Deborah Warner, Brian Cox gave a highly-acclaimed performance. In this compulsive account of a theatrical journey, Cox describes the rehearsal room investigation in the possibilities of the text in performance as the production toured to Bucharest and Tokyo, Cairo and Paris in the wake of Perestroika and with the Gulf War gathering momentum in the early ''90s. But this is also a personal story; for Lear, like Hamlet is a part notorious for consuming it''s players and Cox is not only separated from his family for months, but also trying to negotiate a window in the storm to get married as he plays the character of an old man, rejected by his daughters and friends and sunk in madness…

Failure Models for Textile Composites

release date: Jan 01, 1995
Failure Models for Textile Composites
The goals of this investigation were to: identify mechanisms of failure and determine how the architecture of reinforcing fibers in 3D woven composites controlled stiffness, strength, strain to failure, work of fracture, notch sensitivity, and fatigue life and to model composite stiffness, strength, and fatigue life. A total of 11 different angle and orthogonal interlock woven composites were examined. Composite properties depended on the weave architecture, the tow size, and the spatial distributions and strength of geometrical flaws. Simple models were developed for elastic properties, strength, and fatigue life. A more complicated stochastic model, called the ''Binary Model, '' was developed for damage tolerance and ultimate failure. These 3D woven composites possessed an extraordinary combination of strength, damage tolerance, and notch insensitivity.
