The story was written for five-year-old Noel Moore, son of Potter''s former wife Annie Carter Moore, in 1893. After a number of publishers turned down it, Potter redesigned and published it privately in 1901, however Co. and frederick Warne published it in a trade edition in 1902. The book grew to be extremely popular and was reprinted a number of times in the years following its release. It''s been translated into 36 languages and is one of the most well known books ever - with 45 million copies sold.
