Ophelia

release date: Dec 02, 2013
Ophelia
It falls to Dr. Signe Lund to perform the autopsy on the body of a young woman found in a pond on Emerald Creek, near Salmon Bay, Oregon, in 1937. Murder is certain, the identity of the young woman is not known until the end of this tangled tale of lust and larceny. Signe and Sheriff Flint name the young woman Ophelia, and this proves eerily apt, as the tragedy of Shakespeare''s "Hamlet" plays out through the dissolution of the Larsen family timber empire. Fans of "Salmon Bay" will enjoy meeting Aunt Blix and the Jergenson family again, now numbering three young children, with the arrival of Holly. Through the unlikely availability of a Ford Trimotor forestry airplane,Signe and Flint exact rough justice on the murderers of Ophelia.

Permission to Speak Freely

release date: Aug 30, 2010
Permission to Speak Freely
In May 2008, Anne Jackson asked a question on her blog, “What is one thing you feel you can’t say in church?” Hundreds responded. Everyone had a story. Permission to Speak Freely is the unique new project and movement of author Anne Jackson, who is finished with keeping brokenness in the dark. Bringing to light the original intent of God’s sanctuary as a place of help and healing, Anne reveals that through confession, both to God and to others, we can live lives that are whole and healed. Told with disarming transparency, Anne shares what led to her own addictions and the ensuing lifestyle that left her wounded and withdrawn, but ultimately rescued and redeemed. She includes dramatic stories of others who also learned to abandon their fear, pride, and masks; to identify their hurts; and to find the courage to speak freely. Their confessions, submitted as mixed media pieces, photography, and sketches, were collected from people across the world, and are included throughout the book. Readers will share in the opportunity to find their own path to redemption and freedom.

Demystifying Chipmaking

release date: Jun 06, 2005
Demystifying Chipmaking
This book takes the reader through the actual manufacturing process of making a typical chip, from start to finish, including a detailed discussion of each step, in plain language. The evolution of today''s technology is added to the story, as seen through the eyes of the engineers who solved some of the problems. The authors are well suited to that discussion since they are three of those same engineers. They have a broad exposure to the industry and its technology that extends all the way back to Shockley Laboratories, the first semiconductor manufacturer in Silicon Valley. The CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor) process flow is the focus of the discussion and is covered in ten chapters. The vast majority of chips made today are fabricated using this general method. In order to ensure that all readers are comfortable with the vocabulary, the first chapter carefully and clearly introduces the science concepts found in later chapters. A chapter is devoted to pointing out the differences in other manufacturing methods, such as the gallium arsenide technology that produces chips for cell phones. In addition, a chapter describing the nature of the semiconductor industry from a business perspective is included. "The entire process of making a chip is surprisingly easy to understand. The part of the story that defies belief is the tiny dimensions: the conducting wires and other structures on a chip are more than a hundred times thinner than a hair - and getting thinner with every new chip design." - Authors are actual engineers who have a broad range of exposure and experience with chip technology - Contains a unique chapter describing the nature of the semiconductor industry from a business perspective

The Most Effective Treatment for OCD

release date: Jan 01, 2003
The Most Effective Treatment for OCD
Obsessive-Compulsive disorder manifests itself through many different symptoms that are beneficial, tolerable, or harmful to the client. It is necessary to curb these symptoms that are debilitating and physically harmful and to learn to use in moderation those symptoms that may be benefical to the client. It was concluded that the most effective therapies for the treatment of clients with OCD are based on cognitive, behavior, and social modeling theories in combination with medications termed Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors. In a case study, a modeling and reshaping treatment plan showed effective results in correcting the eating rituals of a 10-year old girl with OCD. A study was conducted comparing 6 OCD-diagnosed patients with 11 non-diagnosed participants on the basis of Y-BOCS ratings to determine the most effective treatments for OCD.
